The second edition of “Surviving Neurosurgery: Vignettes of Resilience,” edited by Nitin Agarwal, MD, MBA, FACS, is now available from Springer. The new edition expands the original collection with additional vignettes and reflections.
The book is a candid, multi-perspective look at the inner lives of neurosurgeons, healthcare partners, and patients, gathered as short first-person vignettes. It is organized into seven parts that mirror the seven years of neurosurgical training, moving through the challenges of residency, surgical nuance, research and funding, patient experience, and the obstacles that come with a career in the field.
More than 100 contributors share their wisdom and experience, including patients, trainees, advanced practice providers, and attending neurosurgeons. Patient narratives sit alongside clinician accounts of the same events, and each piece stands on its own, so the book can be read straight through or opened anywhere.
It is written for patients and families facing a new diagnosis, for residents and students building empathy alongside operative skill, and for practicing clinicians who want perspective from the other side of the chart.
The second edition is available now on Amazon.
Congratulations to Dr. Agarwal and every contributor who made this edition possible.
